President In Kansas Calls For Unified Economic Fix

Presidential watchers in Osawatomie, KS were intent on preserving the event. Mr. Obama called for unity in repairing the economy

For the second time in slightly more than a hundred years,  a current or  former  president  visited the  Kansas  town of Osawatomie. There were similarities, then and now. Inside Osawatomie  High School   gymnasium President Barack Obama encouraged his listeners,  cajoled  Congress  and  invoked  the   memory of  Theodore Roosevelt.  KCUR's  Dan  Verbeck  was there and  described hundreds waiting in line on  streets and sidewalks.

Teddy Roosevelt delivered a speech in 1910 that called for a "New Nationalism", and defended the government's role in regulating the economy, defending human welfare and property rights. Officials With NBAF Pleased About President's Budget

The President's budget, which was made public yesterday, pegs $150 million for the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility. That's the Level 4 laboratory designed to test highly contagious pathogens and foreign animal diseases operated by the Department of Homeland Security. DHS awarded the $650 million project to K-State a couple of years ago.

Officials told reporters in a teleconference yesterday they were happy with the budget proposal.

Obama Stumps For Carnahan In Downtown KC

Kansas City, MO – President Barack Obama came to Kansas City today to stump for Senate hopeful Robin Carnahan. After visiting a local electric car plant, he attended a thousand-dollar-a-plate fundraiser at the downtown Marriott, and then went next door to the Folly Theater for what was billed as a "grassroots" rally.

President Obama lost the state of Missouri in the 2008 election by just a few thousand votes. Still, Democrats are hoping his support will help Secretary of State Robin Carnahan defeat longtime 7th district Congressman Roy Blunt, formerly the minority whip.
