Wi-Fi Spreads Across the Metro

By Jennifer Galt

Kansas City, MO – Wireless Internet is now available at Kansas City's Country Club Plaza and the Legends at Village West.

At the Plaza, the internet service will be provided through 11 rooftop radios. It will work best for users who want to connect to the internet outside Time Warner says the wireless internet may not work once users step inside.

Damon Porter, spokesperson for Time Warner Cable, says the company needed to charge for the Plaza's Wi-Fi service because of higher construction costs.

Damon Porter: "It's a historic place and we wanted to honor and respect that infrastructure, and so there were some things we needed to do to preserve that historical integrity and to make sure the connection would work."

Accessing the internet will be free at the Legends, but using it on the Plaza will cost about nine dollars for twenty-fours. The Wi-Fi service will be free for Kansas City Roadrunner customers.

Time Warner says the Plaza is one of the first shopping centers in the country to offer wireless internet.
