The Weekend To-Do List

Looking for something to do this weekend? Up to Date's Brian McTavish offers up a few options in his Weekend To-Do List for April 6-8, 2012.

Kansas City Sea Life Aquarium:Grand opening of the family attraction, which features more than 5,000 sea creatures. 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Crown Center, 2450 Grand, Kansas City, MO.  Admission: $10-$19.

Lady Antebellum:Country pop group. 8 p.m. Friday at the Sprint Center, 1407 Grand, Kansas City, MO. Tickets: $25 -$69.50.

Middle of the Map Fest:A music festival with eighty bands playing rock, pop, indie, hip hop, electronic, shoegaze, psych, punk and more. Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at eight Westport locations: Record Bar, Beaumont Club, Gusto Lounge, Firefly Lounge, Riot Room, The Union, Westport Coffeehouse and McCoy's Public House. Tickets: $35.

A Conversation with Giada De Laurentiis: Celebrity chef and host of Everyday Italian on Food  Network. 8 p.m. Thursday at the Midland by AMC, 1228 Main, Kansas City, MO. Tickets: $25-$45.

25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee:Musical comedy with Richard Karn from Home Improvement. 6:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, noon and 6:30 p.m. Saturday, and 12:15 p.m. Sunday at the New Theatre Restaurant, 9229 Foster, Overland Park, KS. Tickets: $36-$52.

Brian McTavish follows popular culture in the belief that the search for significance can lead anywhere. Brian explains, "I've written articles and reviews ... reviewed hundreds of concerts, films and plays. And the thing is, these high arts all sprang from the pop culture of their day.
