Artist William Pope.L has spent more than two decades tackling social issues ranging from homelessness to racism. Grand Arts presents Pope .L's new project in Kansas City called Animal Nationalism. By Laura Spencer

Kansas City, MO – KCUR's Laura Spencer caught up with the artist in the Exhibition Hall at Municipal Auditorium. Here's William Pope.L in his own words....where he explores how he deals with controversy, his struggle with truth, and the symbolism behind the flag.

As part of the Animal Nationalism project, William Pope L.'s American flag installation called Trinket is on display through September 12th in the Exhibition Hall at Municipal Auditorium. The video and performance piece, Small Cup, screens at Grand Arts through October 18th.
