Perhaps the most important film that you can see this year.Journalist Sebastian Junger and Tim Hetherington are embedded with the U.S. military at a dusty, deadly posting in Afghanistan's unforgiving Korengal Valley and their resulting film is a harrowing documentary that they hope will "make viewers feel as they have just been through a 94-minute deployment."
They succeed. Viewers are given unparalleled access to the chaotic day-by-day agenda that has to be as close to hell on earth as there is. Though there are breaks from the gunfire and monotony - like a spontaneous disco show by a trio of joyful soldiers - and revealing chats with the soldiers (both on the ground and later, in their civvies), there is also death.
