The University of Missouri-Kansas City announced a $7 million grant Monday to establish its School of Nursing and Health Studies as a national HIV-prevention resource center.
The award comes from the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and is the largest in the school's history.
In a release, UMKC says the grant will provide $1.4 million annually for five years, create nine new jobs and establish the National Capacity Building Assistance Provider Network Resource Center on the university's Hospital Hill campus near downtown Kansas City, Mo.
The university says new and current employees will work with other grant recipients to help professionals in HIV-prevention with best practices in planning, implementing and evaluating HIV-prevention programs.
The co-directors on the grant are Laurie Krom, program director in the Collaborative for Excellence in Behavioral Health Research and Practice; and Jacki Witt, clinical associate professor and project director for the National Clinical Training Center for Family Planning.
