True/False Film Festival

One film features a teacher of refugee children in a rural town in the Netherlands. The other film is one man's dive into his brother's death and its effect on their family. A talk with the directors of these two documentaries, which are showing at this weekend's True/False Film Festival in Columbia, Missouri. Plus, is documentary filmmaking all about facts or can there be poetic license?

Guests:

  • Stacy Woelfel, Associate Professor, School of Journalism and Director, Jonathan B. Murray School for Documentary Journalism at the University of Missouri
  • Peter Lataster and Petra Lataster, Directors, Miss Kiet's Children
  • Yance Ford, Director, Strong Island

People don't make cameos in news stories; the human story is the story, with characters affected by news events, not defined by them. As a columnist and podcaster, I want to acknowledge what it feels like to live through this time in Kansas City, one vantage point at a time. Together, these weekly vignettes form a collage of daily life in Kansas City as it changes in some ways, and stubbornly resists change in others.
