Traffic Trickle Start on Behemoth Bridge Job
Kansas City, MO – You should be able to make an unimpeded trip across the new Christopher Bond Bridge over the Missouri River before New Year's Eve. Construction is six months ahead of schedule.
Just hours after the bridge dedication today, cars were using first part of the span replacing Paseo Bridge.
Laura Wagner of the project team thinks drivers will get a spectacular view of the new landmark, cable-stay bridge as they go, "they opened the first traffic across the new bridge this afternoon. It's the westbound Front Street to northbound I-29,I-35 lane that is now open."
And more will be opening over the next few months on the nearly 5 miles stretch of Interstates and crossover streets from North Kansas City onto the Northeast corner of the downtown freeway loop.
The old Paseo bridge stands 6 feet from the replacement and will be torn down next year, very carefully. The whole project bears a $245 million price.
