Kansas City, MO – Kansas Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh has announced that he will not run for governor in 2006. The Republican cited a desire to spend more time with his family.

A fire involving sodium hydroxide sent 31 persons to hospitals in Kansas City, Kansas this morning. Four were firefighters, most were employees of the Kaw River Shredding recycling plant.

A group protesting proposed Social Security changes demonstrated at the office of Republican Congressman Kenny Hulsof in Columbia today. A spokesman for Hulsof called the demonstration "a publicity stunt."

Lee's Summit police are supporting a proposed ordinance to ban 20-inch-tall "pocket bikes" and motorized scooters and skateboards from the city's streets, sidewalks and parks.
