Arts Funding Back In Proposed Kansas Budget

Kansas Governor Sam Brownback recently proposed restoring some funding for the state arts commission. Last year, Brownback withdrew all funding, making Kansas the first to end state funding for the arts. The Governor’s proposal calls for merging the Kansas Arts Commission andKansasFilm Commission into a new Creative Industries Commission under the Department of Commerce. Missouri Food Prices Higher Than Average

Food prices in Missouri rose in the fourth quarter of 2011, according to theMissouri Farm Bureau's year-end Marketbasket Survey.  The survey tracks the prices of 16 items, representing a cross-section of agricultural products, from russet potatoes to shredded cheddar cheese. Diane Olson, director of promotion and education for the Bureau, says on average, prices of those items were up $2.69 from the third quarter of 2011, and up $4.14 from the end of 2010.  According to the Farm Bureau survey, Missouri's price trend was the opposite of the national average's.  Find out more here

Black Archives Find New Home

KC Currents hosts Susan Wilson visits the new home of the Black Archives of Mid America and hear from the new director Doretha Williams.  With the support of the Kansas City Public Library and the Kauffman Foundation, the Black Archives hope to re-open to the public in June.
