Find out more about a disturbance at Kansas City Mayor Sly James’ State of the City address.  A Clay County judge has blocked the sale of North Kansas City hospital until the lawsuit is over.   There are now two polar bears at the Kansas City Zoo, and zookeepers are hoping they’ll bring another polar bear to the city.

State Of The City Speech Overshadowed by Protestor

As Mayor Sly James delivered a predictable State of the City address at the Gem Theater Tuesday morning, Derron Black, 31, stormed the podium from backstage, pushed the mayor out of the way, and screamed obscenities into the microphone.  Read more here.

Judge Blocks North Kansas City Hospital Sale For Now

North Kansas City’s hospital can’t be sold, so long as a dispute over whether the city has the authority to sell it is in court. That’s according to a preliminary injunction issued by a Clay County judge. While the ruling is good news for the hospital board bringing the lawsuit, the board also took a hit in yesterday’s court decision.  Find out more here.

Romance For Kansas City’s Polar Bears?

If you're a zoo-lover, you’ve probably heard that the Kansas City Zoo’s very popular Polar Bear, Nikita, has a new friend.  Six-year-old Nikita, a male, has been joined by female Berlin, 17 years his senior.  The bears illustrate how the conservation and education mission of zoos is, more and more, helping municipalities with their bottom line.  Learn more here.
