Ethanol Plants Caught In "Blend Wall'

On Highway 20 outside of Atkinson in north-central Nebraska, semis with trailers full of corn roll past the NEDAK ethanol plant. The plant, which was built by local investors in 2008, has been offline since June 2012 when the drought pushed corn prices to new highs. Read more here in this report from Harvest Public Media.

Heart Attacks and Strokes, Also In Ancient Times

Heart attacks and strokes, considered to be modern diseases, may have also been common in ancient times. That’s according to new research led by Dr. Randy Thompson, a cardiologist at St. Luke’s hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.  Read more here.

Weekend Shootings In Kansas City And Grandview

The Kansas City Star reports two shootings took place early Sunday morning in Grandview and Kansas City, Missouri. Seven people were injured. As of Sunday afternoon, the police report three of the victims are in serious, but stable condition, and two are critical, but stable. Read more here.

Kansas School Funding Case Up For Discussion

A conference call is expected to take place this morning between Chief Justice Lawton Nuss and attorneys involved in a Kansas school funding lawsuit to discuss a schedule for review in the state Supreme Court. Read more here.

Kansas Lawmakers Plan To File School Funding Motion

The top Democrats in the Legislature say lawmakers should have a hand in mediation in a case over school funding. They say they'll file a motion making that argument this week. Read more here.

McCaskill Crafting Legislation To Allow Electronics On Flights

After receiving a tepid response from the FAA on the prospect of changing rules to allow electronic devices like iPads and Kindles to be used throughout a flight, Senator Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) announced that she is beginning to craft legislation instead. Read more here.

Home Brewers Bill Passes Mo. Senate

Legislation that would allow home brewers to bring home-made beer to festivals has passed the Missouri Senate. If passed, home brewers could give away free samples to guests at beer festivals and tastings, but would not be allowed to sell them. Read more here.

Big 12 Tournament Set

The Big 12 brackets are set for the men's tournament in Kansas City, Mo. Kansas and Kansas State, the regular season co-champions, are playing for better seeds in the NCAA tournament. Read more here.
