  • Brad Stratton, president of the Shawnee Mission School District Board of Education

David Amram cut his first record as a leader in the 1950s. He's since written and recorded jazz, rock, folk, Latin, Native American, orchestral and chamber music.

Segment 2, beginning at 17:08: For David Amram, Composing And Playing Across Styles Came Naturally

You may not have heard of David Amram, but you've heard of the cats he's jammed with. Does Miles Davis or Charles Mingus, Jack Kerouac or Steve Martin, Pete Seeger or Leonard Bernstein ring a bell? Today, we spoke with the genre-hopping, multi-instrumental graduate of the University of "Hang Out-ology."

As part of the Folk Alliance International Conference, Chuck Haddix will interview David Amram, who will also play with Victor & Penny and the Loose Change Orchestra, at the Olathe Downtown Public Library at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13. For more information, go to Folk.org.
