Seg. 1: School Walkouts. Seg. 2: Kansas And Remunerations.

Segment 1: National School Walkout Day.

This morning, students around the country walked out of their classrooms to protest gun violence and to demand action on mass shootings. We hear about what happened in KC and examine whether schools have a role in fostering student activism.

Segment 2, beginning at 25:23: Determining the monetary value of someone's life.

How much is a year of your life worth to you? The state of Kansas doesn't compensate people for years wrongfully spent in prison. After a handful of high-profile cases of wrongful convictions in the state, how would you even begin to do that math?

People don't make cameos in news stories; the human story is the story, with characters affected by news events, not defined by them. As a columnist and podcaster, I want to acknowledge what it feels like to live through this time in Kansas City, one vantage point at a time. Together, these weekly vignettes form a collage of daily life in Kansas City as it changes in some ways, and stubbornly resists change in others.
