Santorum Wins Kansas Caucuses

Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum won the Kansas caucuses Saturday and thirty-three of the forty delegates that go with them.   

Rick Santorum and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney are the current front-runners in a heated four-way battle for the Republican nomination. 

It’s no secret that Kansas will vote Republican in the general election in November, no matter who the party’s nominee is.  That means the caucuses were many Kansas voters’ best chance to cast a presidential vote for their candidate. Across the state, voters overwhelmingly went with Santorum.  Jeff Day from Eudora, Kansas, says he picked Santorum, even though many Republican leaders say Romney matches up best against President Obama.

“In the beginning I kind of counted him out – I was leaning toward Romney," says Day. "As I learned more about him I was like ‘I think this guy can do it. If he can beat Romney I think he can beat Obama.”

Both Santorum and Representative Ron Paul campaigned in Kansas, while the other candidates skipped the state.
