Rosa Parks Bus Unveiled at Kansas City Commemoration

Kansas City, MO – At a ceremony to honor civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks last week, Kansas City Area Transportation Authority officials unveiled a new Rosa Parks bus.

The bus features large photographs of Parks on one side and displays a large photograph of Rayford Harris, one of the first five African-American bus drivers hired in Kansas City in 1960 along with his fellow drivers, on the other side.

At the ceremony, held at the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority's body shop, transportation and city officials, a local pastor, and a bus operator talked about the legacy of Rosa Parks and the impact on Kansas City.
