Reading by Displaced Poet Mona Lisa Saloy
Mona Lisa Saloy's poetry has been recognized for capturing the street idioms and cultures of her native city, New Orleans. " Red Beans and Ricely Yours" is a celebration of the vibrant history, street culture and color of her hometown.

Kansas City, MO – Mona Lisa Saloy was one of many residents displaced by Hurricane Katrina. The poet and folklorist visited Kansas City recently and read at the African American History and Culture House on the campus of UMKC.
*Saloy uses some strong language that some people might find offensive.
Saloy is associate professor of English and director of creative writing at Dillard University, but is a visiting associate professor at University of Washington in Seattle for the 2005-2006 academic year.
