To longtime Kansas City observers it was a day of mutual appreciation. The day after revealing he will not seek reelection, Missouri U.S. Senator Christopher Bond toured the state. In Kansas City it was ostensibly to thank supporters. It turned into a gathering of civic and political leaders from multiple counties. Chairman of Swope Parkway Health Center Frank Ellis said the Republican senator's legacy will be led by health care for the disadvantaged. Mr Ellis noted, " Senator Bond successfully spearheaded an effort to increase funding for community health centers by one billion dollars. The increase in federal funding in the forty years here is the largest ever"
Bond was also hailed for his backing of public works projects. They include the Brush Creek Flood Control plan that rejuvenated parts of the east side. Bond has two years left in his term.
