Missouri's chief election controller predicts more voters than usual will be at the polls next Tuesday.
The past two mid term elections, turnout stood very close to 17 percent. So 24 percent, as predicted, is a high figure. The forecast is made from a collection of factors. This comes from the Secretary of State's office, where Laura Egerdal credits local election officials with figuring out how many people might vote. In her words, "They see if there's a increase in absentee voting. They see if there's an increase in voter registration. So they have the information they need to make an accurate prediction for their communities."
Ten percent is the predicted turnout next Tuesday in Kansas City voting. It jumps to 18 percent for Jackson County, outside the city. Many Missouri counties expect a 30 to 40 percent turnout. Highest is Lafayette County. Local officials expect an 85 percent voting rate.
