New Kansas City Council Takes Shape

Kansas City, MO – The Kansas City Council started to take shape today as mayor elect Mark Funkhouser appointed committee chairs and members. KCUR's Maria Carter reports.

Longtime state representative and incumbent councilmember Bill Skaggs will step up to be mayor pro tem. Mark Funkhouser says Skaggs will perform more than just a ceremonial role.

The mayor elect also cut down on the number of committees going from six to four. Returning councilmember Deb Hermann will head up the finance and audit committee, one of that group's first tax will be creating a policy for the city's use of Tax Increment Financing. Ed Ford will chair transportation and infrastructure. Terry Riley will head up planning and zoning. And Cathy Jolly will lead the public safety and neighborhoods committee. Maria Carter, KCUR News.
