Kansas City, MO – For the first time since 2002, both Missouri and Kansas are in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA men's basketball tournament.

In Boise, Idaho, the Missouri Tigers defeated Marquette, 83-79. So they'll move on to Glendale, Arizona, outside Phoenix. The Tigers will take on second-seeded Memphis this Friday.

The Kansas Jayhawks advanced after a 60-43 victory over Dayton in Minneapolis. KU will meet Michigan State this Friday in Indianapolis. KCUR's Greg Echlin has more.

Sports have an economic and social impact on our community and, as a sports reporter, I go beyond the scores and statistics. I also bring the human element to the sports figures who have a hand in shaping the future of not only their respective teams but our town. Reach me at gregechlin@aol.com.
