Two men and a woman have been murdered in an Independence, Missouri home invasion and police have a partial description of the killers, saying that a surviving victim was able to describe the attackers.
Many shots were fired inside the small house in the 1500 block of South Pope Avenue early today, according to investigators.
Police say bullets killed 48 year old Maria Hernandez, her 20 year old son Antonio Hernandez and Thomas Madrigal. Madrigal was described as Hernandez' boyfriend.
Another person is critically wounded.
Captain John Cato of Special Police Operations told KCUR one attacker wore all red clothing, another taller man, dressed in black, wore a mask or bandana and a third had red pants and dark jacket.
Cato said it appears victims and killers knew one another-- “this wasn’t just a randomly selected residence.”
Robbery, Cato said, may have been the killers' initial
motivation.
Cato said the woman killed has six children but couldn’t say how many were at home when the shooting began around 4:30 Friday morning, November 16th.
Cato believes two or more of the attackers may still have guns.
At last reports the men were at-large.
