Kansas City, MO – Next weekend is the debut of the long-awaited, and controversial PBS documentary about the war by Ken Burns. Latino veterans groups have criticized Burns for not including their perspective in the 14-hour series. University of Texas Professor Maggie Rivas Rodriguez, wrote A Legacy Greater than Words, and Mexican Americans and World War II, and created the US Latino and Latina World War II Oral History Project. She told KCUR's Sylvia Maria Gross that she's noticed some patterns in their stories.
On Tuesday, Latino World War II veterans from the Kansas City area will talk about their experiences at La Guerra, a panel discussion at the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library. Sylvia Maria Gross will be moderating the panel, which will be presented in conjunction with KC Currents and KCUR.
