Metaphysical Art by Ghanaian Painter

Artist George Hughes grew up in Ghana, where he first studied the great masters. In his artwork, Hughes fuses paint, family photos, and found objects to create paintings, sculptures, and performance art.

Kansas City, MO – Artist George Hughes grew up in Ghana, where he first studied the great masters. He traveled to Europe as an adult to see the paintings and sculptures he?d only seen in books. Hughes now lives in Tulsa, where?s he a professor at the University of Oklahoma.

In his artwork, currently being displayed at the Carter Art Center Gallery at Penn Valley Community College fuses paint, family photos, and found objects to create paintings, sculptures, and performance art.

Maria Carter spoke with George Hughes about how living on three continents has influenced his artwork and creative process.
