Topeka, KS – The Kansas treasurer runs various savings and loan plans for the state, handles bonds for local governments, and sits on the public employee retirement board, known as KPERS. That fund is facing a projected multibillion dollar shortfall.
Kansas Treasurer Dennis McKinney hails from Greensburg. He's a former state legislator who was appointed as state treasurer by Governor Kathleen Sebelius in early 2009 and is running for the position this year.
Stephen Koranda spoke with McKinney, who says he's handled the job well over the last two years.
McKinney is taking on Republican Sedgwick County Treasurer Ron Estes in the November election.
