Luz D'Sol Mixes Afro-Latin and African American Music
KANSAS CITY, MO – For decades, African American musicians have looked to Latin America for inspiration, and vice versa. Now, in Kansas City, some local musicians have a new take on that sort of collaboration.
Pablo Sanheza moved to Kansas City from Chile and formed the band Makuza, which plays Afro-Latin and Brazilian-influenced jazz. His new project is Luz D'Sol, a collaboration with singer Mocha Jackson, a graduate student at UMKC's business school. They're performing Monday night at Jardine's as part of UMKC's Black History Month celebration. KCUR's Sylvia Maria Gross attended a recent rehearsal at UMKC's Culture House.
