Lamar Hunt Remembered

Independence, MO – Friends, family members, and football players, honored Chief's owner Lamar Hunt at a memorial service. KCUR's Maria Carter reports.

More than a thousand people, many wearing Chiefs red, attended the solemn ceremony in Independence. Lamar Hunt helped found the American Football, League and brought the Chiefs to Kansas City in 1963. The son of an oil tycoon, Hunt also was involved in professional tennis, soccer, and basketball. Chiefs General Manager Carl Peterson says despite his success Hunt embodied humility and selflessness

Carl Peterson: Lamar was an uncommon man who seemed so common. He had no pretenses.

Hunt passed away last week from complications related to prostate cancer.
