KCUR Receives Major CPB Grant

Kansas City, Mo. – The Corporation for Public Broadcasting announced KCUR will be one of seven stations receiving grants to create local journalism centers.

KCUR will work with five public media partners in Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and Nebraska to cover agribusiness.

CPB President Patricia Harrison said at a press conference in Washington D.C. that CPB is committed to local news.

"And that's why we're here today, to announce an innovative, new, grassroots collaboration that will leverage public media's journalism resources and strengthen the information health of America's communities," said Harrison

The grants will infuse more than $10 million into local journalism centers nationwide.

The agribusiness group will hire six people to help cover farming practices, food and fuel production, and their impact on the economy, jobs, and environment.

KCUR serves the Kansas City region with breaking news and award-winning podcasts.
