KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Superintendent John Covington reaffirmed his intention to leave the Kansas City Missouri school district yesterday, while board members were calling for him to stay.

The Missouri Education Commission had been working with the outgoing superintendent to improve Kansas City Schools' rating from "provisional." The head of that commission sees Covington's departure as a setback.

About 400 people crowded into a hotel ballroom in Wichita, Kansas to listen to testimony before members of the Senate Agriculture Committee.

Missouri's Housing Commission has approved using more than 100 million dollars in tax credits for long-term housing for people with special needs.
