KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Snow is accumulating on many streets now. A warning for a rare Kansas City area blizzard is still in effect as snow and winds intensify.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is urging motorists to stay home as a major winter storm approaches.

State offices in Topeka and Shawnee County will be closed today because of the winter storm that's hitting the region.

The severe winter weather is hardest on the needy, and Johnson County service providers began preparing for an increase in demand for shelter over the weekend.
