Kansas City, MO –

  • Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius has vetoed a bill that would have authorized building two coal-fired power plants in southwest Kansas. She also formed a new committee to study regulating emissions.
  • Several Johnson County law enforcement agencies are advising that if someone comes to the door and then makes excuses about their presence, call the police immediately. Police believe it is a potential burglar casing the house and checking to see if anyone is home.
  • A lawsuit accusing Kansas City, Missouri of reverse discrimination in its selection process for municipal court judges appears to be headed for a jury trial, according to the Daily Record, a publication for attorneys. Melissa Howard, a Clay County Prosecutor, aleges she and two other panelists were rejected because they were white.
