  • The Kansas City Police Board has terminated two officers who ignored a pregnant woman's repeated pleas to be taken to a hospital during a 2006 traffic stop. The woman, Sofia Salva, was taken to jail on outstanding warrants, and later miscarried.
  • Nine Kansas City establishments that serve alcoholic beverages have filed suit in Jackson County Circuit Court, claiming that a council-approved smoking ban and the voter-approved measure that is to replace it next month are unconstitutional.
  • Johnson County District Attorney Phill Kline has filed a written request with the state supreme court to allow Shawnee County Judge Richard Anderson to testify in Kline's prosecution of Planned Parenthood's Overland Park Clinic.
  • Missouri Governor Matt Blunt signed the Bomardier Bill today. It could pay the aircraft manufacturer up to $240 million in tax credits if it builds a plant in Kansas City.
  • One worker died and three others were injured this morning when a construction crane collapsed at KCP&L's Iatan power plant near Weston.
