Kansas City, MO – Opal Blankinship remembers her husband G. Lawrence Blankinship Sr, former city councilman and beauty supply entrepreneur. Leaders in the Kansas House of Representatives have eliminated the Corrections and Juvenile Justice Committee; some black and Latino leaders are concerned that the committee was an important outlet for their interests. Hear from former committee member Oletha Faust-Goudeau (D-Wichita) and House Speaker Doug Mays. Scenes from the upcoming play Nothing Comes to Sleepers, written and directed by Jacqee Gafford. In the play, Kansas Citians react to the death of Martin Luther King, Jr. Cultural Convention and Visitors Bureau President Anita Dixon talks about attracting jazz musicians to Kansas City.
