Kansas Soldiers Make Progress In Colorado Fire Fight

Jun 20, 2012

It's slow going, but Kansas soldiers are making progress in a fight against wildfires in Colorado. The nine-soldier crew is using a helicopter to dump water on the blaze.

Sharon Watson is with the Kansas Adjutant General's Department.

"We saw just a few days ago that it was just 10 to 20 percent contained, and that's now up to 50 percent," she said. "These things unfortunately take time, they take daily efforts. There's a lot of challenges with the wind conditions that keep them from flying at times and mechanical things that pop up as well."

The Kansas soldiers have been fighting the Colorado fire since last week. So far, that blaze has burned about 60,000 acres.
