Kansas Rep. Yoder Applauds Republican Victories, Including His Own

In Johnson County, Republicans celebrated big wins Tuesday in Kansas and across the country.

U.S. Rep. Kevin Yoder celebrated his victory just as news broke in Topeka about one of Kansas' big-ticket races.

“Today we have re-elected our United States Senator and statesmen in Washington D.C., Pat Roberts,” Yoder said.

Yoder says Roberts’ win proves pundits were wrong about Independent Greg Orman. He says Kansas has done its part to ensure a Republican majority in both houses of Congress.

“Sen. Roberts is now battle-tested like never before. He will be there fighting for us as our senior senator, our statesman in the United States Senate,” he said.

Johnson County Republican Party Chairman Ronnie Metsker says it’s not often red-state Kansas is the focus of so much national attention.

“We’re not used to being in the limelight, but it was a great picture of what’s going on across the country. We came out victorious tonight,” said Metsker.

Metsker says Roberts’ victory coupled with a win for Gov. Sam Brownback proves Kansas remains a deeply conservative state.

“I think the people are saying we like what’s happening, we want to give this economic policy a chance to continue to play out,” he said.

Metsker says Brownback’s fiscal policy will continue to drive economic development in Johnson County.
