Kansas City Two-Step
Kansas City, MO – The Kansas City Two-Step is a couples dance that started in the African American community in the 1950s. It?s something like the lindy hop mixed with ballroom?and many Kansas Citians are devoted to it. Local filmmakers Rodney Thompson and Stenson McClendon want to preserve the tradition in a documentary about the two-stepping community. They recently described the dance to K-C Currents? host Delores Jones and played a few clips from their film.
We at KC Currents visited the two-stepping scene at the Epicurian Club. Hear an audio postcard from our visit.
Rodney Thompson and Stenson McClendon of Reel Images Film and Video Group will be showing a preview of the film, and offer two-step lessons on Saturday night at the American Jazz Museum.
