KANSAS CITY, Mo. – When Mi-Ai Parrish arrived at the Kansas City Star last month to become its publisher, she was replacing a local, who had been at the paper for 25 years. (Mark Zieman went on to become a vice president at McClatchy, the company that owns the Star.)

Parrish just moved to town from Boise, where she steered the Idaho Statesman, which is also in the McClatchy chain of papers. KCUR's Sylvia Maria Gross sat down with Mi-Ai Parrish in her office to find out her plan for navigating these tough times for the newspaper industry.
