The Kansas City Spirit

Spirit of Kansas City by Norman Rockwell and John Atherton

During its history, Kansas City has suffered from floods and other disasters. But each time it has been uplifted by ordinary and extraordinary people.

Thursday on Up to Date, Steve Kraske welcomes author and photographer Bruce Mathews and Christopher Leitch, Historic House Director for the Kansas City Museum to discuss Kansas City Spirit: Stories of Service Above Self, a collection of some of Kansas City's defining moments and the contributions and personal stories of citizens whose lives exemplified that spirit.

HEAR MORE: Bruce Mathews and his co-authors, Mamie Hughes, Andrew Kaplan, Christopher Leitch, Lynn Mackle, and Carol Powers and Library Director Crosby Kemper III discuss Kansas City Spirit: Stories of Service Above Self this evening at 6:30 at the Kansas City Library Central Library, 14 W. 10th Street, Kansas City, Mo. When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers.
