Kansas City’s Picks For Best Cowtown Gifts

Kansas Citians love eating and drinking, so it should come as no surprise that food and drinks top their list of the best Kansas City gifts.

In our social media quest for a rundown of presents that would represent the Kansas City area, you shot back a grocery list of items that sound like the makings for a fun holiday party: regional beer, popcorn, coffee, chocolate, pastries, toffee, nuts and more.

And the list wouldn’t be complete without the ample mentions of Kansas City barbecue sauce.

Nonedible gift ideas included soap, marbles and photos of the lights on the Country Club Plaza.

The most creative Kansas City “gift” idea comes from Margaretha Finefrock, who on Facebook suggested a “hike from Jerry Smith Park to Kansas City, Kansas.”  The 360-acre Jerry Smith Farm Park also is part of the Saeger Woods Conservation area, at 139th Street, west of Prospect Avenue in Kansas City, Mo.

Here’s your Kansas City-inspired wish list, Kansas City, in no particular order, based on feedback we received via social media and telephone messages this week:

• Christopher Elbow chocolates

• Candy from Tall Grass Toffee Inc.

• Topsy's Popcorn tins

• Chocolates and treats from André's Confiserie Suisse

• Soaps from Indigo Wild

• Marbles and toys from Moon Marble Co.

• Coffee from the Roasterie, Parkville Coffee and Broadway Café and Roasting Co.

• Photos of the holiday lights at the Country Club Plaza

• Beer from Boulevard Brewing Co.

• Spices from the Planters Seed and Spice Co.

• Barbecue sauce from Gates Bar-B-Q and Joe’s Kansas City

• Souvenirs tied to the Shuttlecocks at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art
