Kansas City Police will continue to offer few specifics about the new No Violence Alliance, NoVA. Critics who want to know more about how it will operate and who are the most violent criminals it will target will have to wait.
The NoVA program is still being drawn as a work in progress, according to President of the Board of Police Commissioners. Pat McInerney answered questions following today’s meeting of the police governing board.
Neither veteran former federal prosecutor McInerney nor Chief Darryl Forte will name the top criminals being targeted for arrests. They will not identify minor players the program hopes to target too, for rehabilitation.
McInerney said it’s provincial, not designed to look at gang problems in Johnson County, Kansas or elsewhere, “nobody’s hiding information. It’s a matter of the focus being on making this an effective program to reduce violent crime in this city.”
In ‘this city’ refers to within confines of Jackson County, Missouri. And it may take years to work. That, from the police chief.
