Kansas City Meeting About Gang Crime Ends In Testy Tweets

kccg

Gang crime moving from place to place in the metro area was raised in a Kansas City Council Committee today but not directly answered. And even newer questions arose.

Social media was stirring by meeting's end.

Kansas City’s Police Chief and the Jackson County Prosecutor wanted to brief the Council Public Safety Committee about progress in a new anti-crime program.

Discussion late in the session led to questions from Councilman Scott Taylor about a reported influx of crime into parts of Johnson County, Kansas. Taylor wondered  if there have been discussions about the role of the state line in movement of gangs.

The answers from Police Chief Darryl Forte centered on how Probation and Parole officers can track criminals, and the Taylor question was left hanging.

Afterward there was an exchange between the Chief and TV reporter Michael Mahoney that had Chief Forte tweeting about being rudely treated:

Tweets were fielded and enterprised by participants and others, some who seemed miffed by Chief Forte's response.

The issues are expected to arise again.
