Kansas City, Missouri – The march toward the secession of seven Kansas City Missouri public schools continues. The Independence school board voted Tuesday to put a plan to annex the seven schools on the November ballot. Superintendent and board member Dr. Jim Henson said a school district has the duty to be responsive to its community.
To change affiliation of the seven schools, which are geographically in Independence and Sugar Creek, requires a vote in both Kansas City and Independence. The Kansas City school board so far has refused to call for an election, and questions whether the law applies to the district. Supporters of the reaffiliation are seeking a court order for a Kansas City election.
