KANSAS CITY, Mo. – St. Luke's executives and supporters celebrated the opening of the hospital's new $330 million campus in midtown Kansas City today.

The main facility is now home to St. Luke's 35-year-old heart institute, the oldest heart hospital in the country. It includes redesigned patient rooms, equipped with flat screen T.V.s and computers for visitors, as well as a dining area serving Hereferd House and Bo-Lings.

Dr. Kenneth Huber, co-medical director of the heart institute, says he's most excited the new facility puts surgeons and cardiologists in adjoining labs and operating rooms.

"So that all the physicians that work on those different parts work in a collaborative way together, side by side," says Dr. Huber.

Dr. Huber says that's all the more important as health care becomes more and more specialized, requiring physician teams to meet patient needs.

The seven-story building marks St. Luke's largest expansion yet.
