Holland Takes KCK Mayoral Post
Some political insiders thought they saw a close race, but Mark Holland ran up 56 percent of the Wyandotte County vote to become the next Mayor of Unified Government.
The minister-turned-politician was grateful a political mechanism put together by two former mayors worked for him.
Carol Marinovich and Joe Reardon were early supporters.
Holland was asked if remarks he made during the campaign that the greatest economic threat to the county is the agenda of Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, might come back in retribution and he responded with, "Well, to say that some of the cuts coming through for education and cuts against municipalities are hurting our city, there’s no reason to not state that. We certainly need to be at the table with the state working with our delegation. Our delegation is very active.”
Immediately, Holland has four new commissioners to bring into or keep in the fold.
Joe Reardon will leave it in Holland’s hands April 24th: Reardon indicated confidence.
"There’s not a single one of them that doesn’t want to see our community to continue to progress. And Mark’s the guy to bring people together around that rallying cry.”
Holland said he will continue as a minister, but being Mayor is his full time job.
