High Expectations for Principals in KCMO 'Transformation Plan'
By Anthonia Akitunde
Kansas City, MO – The Kansas City Missouri School District drew national attention this spring when it shuttered 26 schools to deal with declining enrollment and a $50 million dollar deficit. Along with the down-sizing, the superintendent promised an educational transformation for the district's students.
As part of that transformation, all 150 school principals had to re-apply for their jobs. Students may see some familiar faces when they return to school this week, but there will be some principals who are completely new to the position, the district, or even the city.
KCUR's Anthonia Akitunde looked into whether this focus on principals might lead to better schools.
