Four Runs, Five Ejections Cap Wild Royals Weekend

Two Kansas City Royals players, their manager and two coaches were kicked out of Sunday's series finale against the Oakland Athletics at Kauffman Stadium.

When it was all said and done, the Royals won the game, 4-2, and the series.

A’s starting pitcher Scott Kazmir says they left town angry.

“It leaves a bad taste in our mouth. It really does,” said Kazmir.

But Kazmir started the day by hitting Lorenzo Cain.

“I definitely didn’t like it,” said Cain.

Royals pitching coach Dave Eiland and manager Ned Yost were the first to be ejected after both benches warned by the umpires. Then Kelvin Herrera was given the thumb in the eighth after throwing a 100 miles per hour pitch behind the back of Brett Lawrie.

The trouble started Friday night when a hard slide by Lawrie sidelined Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar for the rest of the series. That didn’t stop the umps from also throwing Escobar out of the game Sunday in the eighth along with coach Don Wakamatsu.

The Royals homestand continues Monday night with a three-game series against the Minnesota Twins.
