Former KC Councilman Advocates for Stronger Smoking Ban

Kansas City, MO – The city council approved a smoking ban on Thursday (January 24) which includes most restaurants, but excludes bars. When the measure takes effect in 60 days, smoking will also be banned at Truman Sports Complex, but permitted in tobacco stores and casinos. But in April, residents will still be able to vote on a more comprehensive smoking ban introduced earlier by petitioners. That would replace the city council ban.Former city councilman Jim Rowland, who is also the director of the Sports Complex Authority, told KCUR's Alex Smith he's not impressed with the city council's ban. Rowland is leading the effort to get the petitioner's plan adopted.
