FOP Endorses McCaskill

By Maria Carter

Kansas City, MO – Democratic Senate candidate Claire McCaskill stopped in Kansas City Thursday to receive an endorsement from the Fraternal Order of Police. KCUR's Maria Carter reports.

The F-O-P cited Claire McCaskill's record of working with police as a prosecutor and setting up courts for drugs and domestic violence as reasons for backing her. For her part, McCaskill used the press conference to clarify her position on an anti- methamphetamine bill co-sponsored by her opponent Republican senator Jim Talent. McCaskill says she supports the legislation's restrictions on selling pseudoephedrine a key ingredient in making meth, but that'sjust part of the solution.

Claire McCaskill: It does no good to pass a tough bill, if law enforcement doesn't have the resources to go after the criminals that have in fact committed the crime.

McCaskill points to Talent's past votes against funding programs to pay for law enforcement and other prevention efforts to curb meth use. The Combat Meth Act Talent co-sponsored does include funding for some of the programs he previously had voted against.
