Drive By Shooting In Overland Park Leaves One Dead
Police investigators are at this hour on the scene of a shooting in the 9400 block of Lamar in Overland Park, Kan. The victim’s family and friends are holding vigil across the street as homicide detectives gather evidence from the driveway, lawn, and split level home.
When officers arrived at the house about 3:30 Sunday afternoon, they found a man identified as 33-year-old Raymon Thomas dead in the driveway from multiple gunshot wounds.
Officer Gary Mason of the Overland Park Police Department says it appears the victim had been taking items to or from his car when the suspects drove up to the driveway. One of the men got out and started shooting. Witnesses told police the shooter appeared to have little or no hair and was wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.
Neighbors described hearing what sounded like firecrackers.
Witnesses told police the suspects were driving a red or maroon newer model Ford Taurus.
The victim’s aunt, Ella Thomas, said her nephew was living part time in the house with his girlfriend, the mother of their one young child.
A woman identified as Tiffany Conly said she was also the mother of two children by Thomas. Conley lives at a different address. Sobbing and limp with grief in the arms of family and friends, Conley said that Thomas was a good father and she didn’t know how she would raise their two youngsters without him.
Officer Mason said this is the first homicide of the year in Overland Park.
