Decision on KC Crossroads Delayed

By Laura Spencer

Kansas City, MO – Update: The City Council delayed the decision this week (July 18); it's expected to be resolved next week.

Good news and bad news this week for the owners of Crossroads KC, the music venue behind Grinders on 18th Street.

On Tuesday (July 10), the Board of Zoning Adjustment approved the lease of additional parking spaces in the neighborhood for the venue. But yesterday members of the city's Planning and Zoning Commission delayed a decision on a proposal to vacate the alley behind Grinders. Officials expressed concerns about recovering city funds used to pave the alley two years ago. Councilman Bill Skaggs.

Bill Skaggs: "I have a real problem...and I sympathize with you...a real problem with us just a couple of years ago fixing the alley and all of a sudden turn it over to private ownership."

Until a decision is made, Crossroads KC is required to apply for temporary catering licenses for each show. And Grinders will not be able to allow patrons to transport alcohol between its premises and the music venue. The issue is expected to come up again before the committee next week.
